Federation of Indian Associations invited Brahma Kumaris to India Day Parade in New York

29 August 2022

New York (USA): Brahma Kumaris were invited by FIA (Federation of Indian Associations) to set two Guinness World Records for the greatest number of different flags flown simultaneously and the largest ensemble of the musical instrument Damru.

FIA chairman Ankur Vaidya said these records are dedicated to the global community and thanked the community for their support without which the feat would not have been possible. 1,500 volunteers were needed in order to break the record.

FIA especially thanked Brahma Kumaris for sending volunteers to help create history in this record-breaking event. At the onset of the planning phase, Ankur Vaidya and Parveen Bansal (FIA Event Chair) called Brahma Kumaris in NY and NJ to assist the project by sending brothers and sisters to participate in the flag hoisting.

Parveen Bansal said that the endeavor required massive efforts and the logistics were a big challenge in itself. The whole team of FIA volunteers looked towards Brahma Kumaris to help create an atmosphere of peace and calmness to allow for a successful event.

After the event, Parveen Bansal sent a beautiful message to Brahma Kumaris saying, “These two records would have been difficult to achieve without your involvement and commitment. You gathered your participants and brought them to the venue with the intent of seva. Please do convey our gratitude to each and every participant who traveled from various locations. Their passion, efforts and seva is much appreciated. I am personally humbled by witnessing so many people coming forward selflessly to be part of this historic event. The most disciplined, content and smart participants that I have ever come across have come. Your gesture to tie rakhi on my wrist during the event touched my soul and will always remain with me for the rest of life. In fact I opened my fast after the record with the toli(holy sweet) that you gave me. This was a great opportunity to self reflect and will help me personally to act /conduct calmly. Thanks to Brahma Kumaris for helping me with that.”

The FIA’s India Day parade is considered the largest parade outside India to mark the country’s independence and brings together thousands of members of the diaspora for one of the biggest cultural extravaganzas in the US. Because of the large crowds, it was very important to FIA to have Brahma Kumaris assist in keeping the energy light. When the Guinness Book of World Records began the judging process, there was an instant wave of stillness that spread through the 3 Manhattan blocks, which were closed to the public. In that moment, over 1,500 people stood in complete silence as the judges counted the number of flags being hoisted and awarded the Guinness Book of World Records to FIA.

Soul of India and Rakhi Program report from Boston

29 August 2022

Dear Divine Family,

Love filled greetings. Sister Waddy was with us for Rakhi this past weekend and three programs were held. On Saturday morning leaders of Indian Organizations based in the Boston area came to Celebrate the 7t5th Anniversary - The Soul of India. Sister Waddy spoke and tied rakhi on each one and they left very happy.

On Saturday evening was the public Rakhi program. It  was wonderful to have so many old and new contacts participate and to see how deeply touched they were by the experience. It was interesting to see how they didn't just have rakhi tied and leave but they went back to their seats and most stayed until the end of the ceremony.

Sunday morning's BK family ceremony was beautiful and powerful for all. The ceremony lasted about 4 hours. Baba's presence was felt by all. Please find below some pictures of each program.

We felt so blessed to have Sr. Waddy with us. Thank you.

‘Living in Independence – Inside Out’ Event Addressed by US Representative from New York

25 August 2022

Albany (New York): ‘Living in Independence – Inside Out’ event was organized by Brahma Kumaris Albany and Peace Village Learning and Retreat Center at The Hindu Cultural Center Auditorium to honor the 75th anniversary celebrations of India’s Independence, under the theme USA celebrates “the Soul of India.”

The event began with a beautiful visual and spoken meditation of renewal by BK Sister Dorothy from Peace Village, New York. National Anthems were movingly sung by accomplished local vocal artists accompanied by all.  BK Sister Kala from Peace Village and BK Sister Gayatri from New York shared inspirational and thoughtfully reflective messages on ‘True Independence.‘  A mesmerizing dance, performed by two BK students from Boston, depicted the relationship between the soul and the mind, and the soul’s journey to reclaim true liberation in life.

An insightful poem on liberation by Rabindranath Tagore was read, and a video highlighted India’s gifts to the world.

Special guests included Paul Tonko, US Representative from New York’s 20th congressional district, and other dignitaries and civil servants.

The program concluded with an interview brilliantly facilitated by BK Sister Judy which was a family chat across three generations of a family of Indian origin.

Flags, Inspirational Messages, an Intergenerational dialogue, Meditation, Music, Dance, toli (sweets) and blessings, and dinner were part of this richly textured event MC’ed by BK Subhen.

Youth Campaign on ‘Intergenerational Solidarity’ from August 12 – September 21

24 August 2022

New York (USA): The youth group of the Brahma Kumaris at the United Nations organized a campaign to celebrate the International Day of Youth. The campaign began on Youth Day, Friday, August 12, and ends on Peace Day, September 21, 2022.

Calling all youths: An International Youth Day campaign on

‘Intergenerational Solidarity’

Leveraging the full potential of all ages

Calling all youths in North, South, and Central Americas, and the Caribbean to participate in this campaign organized by youths for youth. We will look at how intrinsic qualities can make us go beyond silos. Practicing the quality of SOLIDARITY and rediscovering it as a power, enables us as a global community to create and sustain a world for all ages. We encourage young people to enter in the process of living in harmony with all human beings, despite our differences of opinion and personality, and share experiences gained from intergenerational interaction.

Together for A Beloved Community’: Brahma Kumaris in New York Participate in an Annual Summer Interfaith Forum

4 August 2022

New York (USA): The Brahma Kumaris made a presence at the 2022 Annual Summer Interfaith Forum TOGETHER FOR A BELOVED COMMUNITY.

As future faith leaders how can we create spaces of true belonging and real connection?

On July 8th, 2022, Brahma Kumaris joined future leaders in their twenties and thirties to explore ways we can cultivate spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued. How might we, as people of faith and spiritual expertise, support individuals and communities connected to their religious and spiritual identities, to amplify their voice, vision, and public leadership?

In this space Brahma Kumaris had the opportunity to join different conversations based on what the panelists — Imam Khalid Latif, Liliane Nkunzimana, Younghoon Han, and Erol Dincer — shared as they expressed through their own experiences the importance of creating and sustaining a beloved community to be able to embody spiritual values in creating a more harmonious and peaceful world.

Self Respect OR Ego with Sr. Mary Friedland

30 July 2022

Self Respect or Ego?

An important part of wellness is to have a good self image – to recognize our good qualities and appreciate our accomplishments. However, promoting my good qualities or good ideas may seem like ego. Is ego a part of self respect or is it entirely different? This conversation will look at how the roots and expression of self respect and ego are actually quite different.

Sr. Mary Friedland resides in Chicago, where she coordinates activities of the Brahma Kumaris for Chicago and the Midwest. She is on the Core Team of Transformation365.org, a group of passionate contemplatives who produce free online meditation practices. Mary enjoys applying spiritual principles to unravel life’s knotty problems, and sharing what she learns with others. Her spiritual studies began in San Francisco in 1987.

This talk is part of our Monday night insight series which takes place the first Monday of every month.
