Manchester InnerSpace Presents an Online Seminar: Be at Peace with Your Past - Tuesday 29 November, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

28 November 2022

Most of us struggle to accept certain things about ourselves, other people, or life.  It can be very hard to let go of past events with uncomfortable associations.  Meditation can help us gain the strength to think differently in the present, gently let go of any unhelpful emotions we feel when we recall the past and allow the past to heal.

Brahma Kumaris Innerspace Wembley Welcomes Multi-Faith Peace Walk

27 November 2022

Wembley (UK):  Brent Multi-Faith Forum’s Peace Walk returned to Brent’s streets for the first time since 2018, marking the end of Interfaith Week. Over one hundred people of all faiths and none marched to many of the borough’s places of worship in a display of peace, unity, and solidarity. People rallied from Brent and beyond, with some attendees journeying from places as far-flung as Croydon and Nunhead.

The walk was initiated with a communal meal at the Brahma Kumaris venue of Innerspace Wembley and speeches on the importance of peace and unity in Brent and beyond from the likes of BK Daxa Shah and Georgina Long of Brahma Kumaris, Rabbi Dr. Frank Dabba Smith and Tahseen Mehar of the Brent Multi-Faith Forum, and Leader of Brent Council, Cllr Muhammed Butt and Cllr Orleen Hylton.

“We are beings of peace – to be at peace is our natural state”  –  BK Daxa Shah

The crowd then journeyed onwards to St John’s Church on Crawford Avenue, one of Alperton’s oldest faith venues, where Rev Ngozi Njoku welcomed the group. Rev Ngozi spoke about the true meaning of peace and conflict, how peace can not truly exist without justice, and that justice can often only be achieved through struggle and sacrifice.

The walk then proceeded down Ealing Road towards the Zia Ul-Uloom Masjid, where the group was joined by Barry Gardiner, Labour MP for Brent North, and Mayor Cllr Abdi Aden. Walkers were met here with words from Abdul Aziz Ahmad on the need to love thy neighbour unconditionally and on the true meaning of Islam – peace and submission.

“All religions are united in a common goal – to love thy neighbour” – Abdul Aziz Ahmad

The final faith venue visited by the walkers was the Shri Sanatan Hindu Mandir on Ealing Road, where the group was met with words on the importance of a peace that embraces all of creation, setting aside not only conflict with fellow humans, but also domination and exploitation of the natural world. The walkers then journeyed to their final stop at Mount Pleasant Open Space.

At Mount Pleasant Open Space, speeches were given by the Mayor of Brent, Cllr Abdi Aden, Barry Gardiner MP, and the Co-Chair of the Brent Multi-Faith Forum, Rabbi Frank Dabba Smith. Mayor Abdi Aden stressed the importance of interfaith work in a borough like Brent, which “… is home to more faiths and more people of faith than any other London borough, and so it is key that we recognise and embrace the role that faith communities play in promoting peace and harmony.” This was followed by the planting of a young dogwood tree “as a symbol of growing peace and friendship today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.” Cake was then served, to the delight of many.

The walk was well received by all, with attendees and organisers alike expressing joy at seeing so many people from different walks of life coming together as one and the spirit of joy and humour which characterised the walk. The walk achieved a great deal in terms of providing walkers with new perspectives, with many walkers reporting that they had had their first experience at a type of faith venue, with many having never attended a church, mosque, or temple before. There was also a hefty dose of relief that the rain was kept at bay until the very final seconds, answering all of our prayers.

The Brent Multi-Faith Forum is looking forward to making this event an annual occurrence and bringing this display of peace and unity all across the borough of Brent in the coming years.

Wembley InnerSpace Presents an Experiential Talk on The Beauty of Solitude  - Tuesday 29 November, 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm UK Time

27 November 2022

Solitude can sometimes feel like taking a breath of fresh air. It is not being lonely, in fact, it is a necessity to hear and listen to yourself and to your thoughts - beyond all the external noise. It is a method to develop a friendly relationship with the mind. In the beauty of solitude, there is a deeper sense of self-support, self-trust, dignity, and an opportunity to clean and clear the mind. The speaker in this experiential talk will share the benefits and the need for solitude.

Speaker: Nehul Shah

Nehul Shah is a business entrepreneur and optometrist by profession. Interested in spirituality since childhood, his understanding strengthened as he came across the path of Raja yoga meditation over 10 years ago.  He has a young family and uses spirituality as the foundation of anything he does. He enjoys using his own personal stories to explain the teachings of Raja yoga meditation. In his spare time, he likes playing racket games and sports.

Claire Pincham

At 12.30 pm

Claire Pincham spent many years in India with an illumined teacher in the tradition of Advaita Vedanta. Since his passing, she travels between England and India and gives unstintingly of her time to raise people's sense of Being towards their real Self.

Her website states that; When knowledge is received, one can contemplate, concentrate and meditate.

She will lead a meditation to help us move towards greater understanding in the style of Satsang, which is translated as a gathering together of those seeking to know their real nature.

AT 2.30 PM

BRAHMA KUMARIS SISTER JAYANTI, ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATIVE HEAD OF THE BRAHMA KUMARIS SPIRITUAL UNIVERSITY WILL LEAD A MEDITATION IN THE TRADITION OF RAJA YOGA.

She recently said;
_When we talk about “meditation,” we’re talking about taking time to be with our thoughts and to elevate them to a higher level of awareness. When we are in an elevated state of mind, our intuition comes into play; we seem to know exactly what to say and do. With practice, we discover the peace and love that are at the core of our being. These qualities are invaluable as they allow us to serve those around us in a natural way. If we take time to create this elevated quality of awareness early each morning and again in the evening, we will find that we remain stable and light regardless of what comes in front of us.

5.30 PM

FROM MY LOCAL CHURCH IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE, OUR VICAR, REV NICKI BLAND WILL LEAD THE TRADITIONAL FORM OF EVENING PRAYER AFTER WHICH WE CAN MEDITATE TOGETHER.

“Prayer for Peace”: Brahma Kumaris Portugal Join City’s Interfaith Prayer

11 November 2022

Odivelas, Portugal (Europe): Representatives of UPF-Portugal (Universal Peace Federation – a global network of peace builders) were invited to participate in an annual inter-religious “Prayer for Peace,” which was part of the city’s Week of Interfaith Harmony and Intercultural Dialogue held from October 10 to 15, 2022.

Odivelas, a small city on the outskirts of the capital, Lisbon, is known and recognized nationally for the great cultural, racial and religious diversity of its population.

As the Portuguese chapter of UPF is known for being involved in many interfaith events and already has been an institutional partner of the Municipality of Odivelas, the City Hall invited UPF to participate in the week’s events, which included temple visits, cultural events and concerts, and a gastronomic and cultural fair.

On Tuesday, a delegation came to visit the UPF Peace Embassy, where they received an introduction to UPF, its founders, and affiliated organizations, particularly in the religious and spiritual spheres.

UPF representatives, in turn, visited the Islamic Community and Brahma Kumaris, making new contacts during these rich encounters.

This significant event of the Odivelas City Hall, in partnership with the Lusophone University of Lisbon (also a partner of UPF-Portugal) and the High Commissioner for Migrations, had as a highlight the presentation of the Charter of Religions, an academic and scientific document unique at the international level, which made a complete mapping of the intercultural religious phenomenon in this municipality through the work of our common friend, Professor Paulo Mendes Pinto of the Science of Religions course in a Memorandum of Understanding protocol with the High Commissioner for Migrations.

On October 15, the last day of the initiative, the main event was the Prayer for Peace, which brought together various denominations in an urban park in Odivelas. Each of the speakers had 12 minutes to introduce themselves and communicate their message of peace, promoting once again the dialogue between religions and cultures.

Participating in this moment of prayer, open to all believers and citizens, regardless of confession, age or gender, were:

  • the Islamic Community of Odivelas (Aisha Siddika Mosque of Odivelas);
  • the Brahma Kumaris Academy for a Better World;
  • the Roman Catholic Apostolic Community (Santo Adrião Parish);
  • the Hindu Community (Temple of Shiva);
  • the Evangelical Community (International Ministry Kairós);
  • the Adventist Community (Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Odivelas);
  • the Sikh Community of Portugal (Gurdwara Sikh Sangat Sahib Lisboa).

Dr. Susana Santos, a city councilwoman with responsibility for equality and citizenship, thanked the religious entities for their presence and stressed the importance of the celebration of the word of good, “the Word of the fraternal union of all beings.” She emphasized the important role of the different confessions in a pluralist society, with interfaith dialogue contributing to the building of a more tolerant and inclusive society.

The event ended with the reading in unison of an interreligious prayer, written for the occasion:

Dear God, Praised be Your Name.

Thank You for Your love and for the moments that we share together. We are blessed because You are an understanding God and of union.

 In this hour we want to recognize before You and the communities present,

that we have not been living in accordance with Your plan of universal love.

Transform our hearts, sensitize our minds. Give us the strength to overcome the pride that prevents the social, economic, religious barriers from being eliminated.

In this hour we ask You to open our minds to accept all Your designs. Enable us to see the world through Your eyes.

 Oh God! You know that our families are in great crisis, You know that they are the core of society. Families in trouble represent a society in trouble. Please visit the homes of Odivelas (and the world), no matter the creed, the color of the skin, the economic condition.

 We implore You to instill in us a spirit of forgiveness, of love, of tolerance. We want to beg for Your help to change behaviors, to overcome addictions and bad habits. Forgive us because we have lived in ignorance. Help us, from now on, to commit ourselves to You and to each other.

 All this we want to ask You, and thank You for, not that we have any merit, but in Your name. Amen / Amin. …

‘Facing the challenges of our rapidly changing world’ – Conversation at GCH

7 November 2022

Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” – Howard Zinn

London (UK): The BK delegation on climate change has been organizing events around climate justice. A conversation was held at Global Co-operation House(GCH), London between faith leaders and scientists sharing their vision of a flourishing and sustainable world.

Many people now recognise that as citizens of planet earth we are living through a critical moment of choice as we wake up from the slumber of materialism and profit at any cost. Whilst our efforts have been focused on turning back the clock in order to reverse the damage done, perhaps the time has now come for a radical re-think, a re-envisioning of how to create a world in which we can all thrive.

This event, as a contribution to The Great Big Green Week, brought together faith leaders and scientists to share their vision of what a flourishing and sustainable world would look like, along with practical insights as to what we can do to get there.

Dr. Thomas Bruhn is a physicist leading the transdisciplinary research groupTransformative Spaces and Mindsets (TranS-Mind) at the Institute of Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) Potsdam.Dr Bruhn is also leading a project to explore how the transformation of mental paradigms and specific qualities like mindfulness and compassion can be integrated into processes for sustainability. Before joining the IASS he did research on semiconductor nanomaterials in Berlin, Rome and Marseille. He is also a member of the German Association of Scientists (VDW).

Philippa Blackham is a journalist and radio presenter. Having worked for BBC Radio 4 in the UK for many years she now coordinates a national project, 100 Women of Spirit, which recognises the spiritual contribution to society made by women. She is an ordained Interfaith Minister and student of Raja Yoga Meditation with The Brahma Kumaris.

Canon Giles Goddard has been Vicar of St John’s since September 2009. He is Chair of the Inclusive Church and is closely involved in helping the Church of England to be more fully inclusive. He is chair of Faith for the Climate which aims to support interfaith work on climate change and is a member of the Church of England’s Environment Working Group. He has also written a book: “Space for Grace – creating inclusive churches”.

Maureen Goodman is the Programme Director for the Brahma Kumaris UK and the Brahma Kumaris representative at the United Nations, Vienna. Maureen’s work with the spiritual and ethical dimensions of climate change explores the nature of harmony and the connection between our inner state of being and the state of our Earth. She was a member of the BK delegation to COP 26, contributing to workshops and dialogues on the ethical and spiritual dimensions of climate change. She also contributes to the Spirit of Humanity Forum, a platform for leaders to discover new and values based ways to move forward.

James Mair is Emeritus Professor of Marine Biology. He has done 40 years of research and teaching activities at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, together with collaborative research projects on marine biodiversity studies in various countries in Latin America. He is interested in the connection between human spirituality and its practical application in ecological sustainability activities. Prof Mair has been a guest speaker at Brahma Kumaris side events at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity COP14 in Egypt in 2018 and at the recent UN Oceans 2022 conference in Lisbon.

What does it take to bid farewell to ego?

This very essential talk will give insights on the various visible and subtle forms of ego and practices to be free from it.

सीमित धारणाओं से परे जाना

Going Beyond Limited Beliefs

Limiting beliefs hold us back from what we want in life. Once we discover how to identify them and realise what they are, we can learn how to overcome them by incorporating actionable strategies.

Changing limiting beliefs can help us achieve everything we’ve ever dreamed of.

Every flower has its own value and specialty.  Each one brings its own beauty and fragrance to a bouquet. In the same way, we can enhance one another's lives.

Stefanía Ólafsdóttir explores how to create communities that acknowledge the best in others and the variety each one adds to the whole.

Stefania comes from Iceland and has been practising and teaching Raja Yoga meditation since 2003. She is currently based in Norway and Iceland and helps run the Brahma Kumaris activities in both countries. Stefania studied to become a musician and currently works as the head of the classical department of the Reykjavik College of Music as well as running a small company that produces meditation material for children, widely used by schools and families in Iceland. She is also part of the executive circle of the Spirit of Humanity Forum, a global platform for leaders and change-makers seeking to contribute towards a lasting, positive transformation in the world.
