People are somehow getting used to the news about Corona. This means that the climate emergency is again receiving attention. In the Arctic Circle temperatures are exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. This indicates how much the soil of what once was permafrost is heating up. The good news is that many citizens, communities and governments are more open to ‘green deals’ to both recover from the economic impact of Corona as well as to build a better future. ‘If not now then never’ is the urgent mantra for today and tomorrow.

Healthy Mind, Healthy Planet
Eminent speakers and wonderful performers from all walks of life from Peru, Costa Rica, New York, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Philippines, Hong Kong and Australia contributed to the Healthy Mind, Healthy Planet webinar. The range of brief talks was fascinating and,along with the musical interludes, were heard by nearly 25,000 people.
The event was dedicated to the UN Environment Day which this year was 5th June.
Healingourearth.com(HOE) instigated these regular Sunday webinars as a result of the Covid pandemic because of a need to heal and restore ourselves and the planet. Nil Kumar invited the Brahma Kumaris to participate on Sunday May 31st 2020 when, over a seven-hour period, the twenty-eight different speakers from around the world shared their own insights on how the mind and the earth are connected; how peace comes from within; how to heal the earth we need to change from head to heart; how the economy is in need of new measures; and much, much more.
We were hosted by several members of the HOE team along with some excellent presentations on topics such as Ayurveda as well as beautiful musical interludes.

Flourishing Futures - Nourishing Biodiversity Now
A new offering by young people of the Brahma Kumaris Environment Initiative has been launched on the occasion of the World Environment Day. Please read more on the “flourishing perspective” towards biodiversity in this Concept Note. Prior to 5th June (and beyond) young people of the Brahma Kumaris from different countries plan to host events and workshops locally or virtually on the theme “Flourishing Futures - Nourishing Biodiversity Now”.
On the World Environment Day, 5 June, 4.30-6.30pm Indian Standard Time IST, there will be a special international online event with distinguished guests. Please register for the event here.

The Brahma Kumaris' Rural Wing is again this year taking the lead in being active for World Environment Day. There are now around 70 online programs arranged by centers all over India, and more to come.

Launch of “Yogic Home Gardening” Project on World Environment Day – June 5

Mount Abu ( Rajasthan ): The Agriculture and Rural Development Wing of the Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation, in collaboration with the Brahma Kumaris, will launch a “Yogic Home Gardening Project” on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2020, and World Food Safety Day on June 7, 2020.
Under this project, thousands of people were trained online for making their Yogic Home Gardens. They will further popularize the aspects of kitchen/terrace gardening across the country. The aim is to make kitchens self-reliant and self-sufficient in vegetable production. This also proves very helpful in view of difficult times of the pandemic.

In preparation of the World Environment Day on 5 June, we created an Environment Initiative called Flourishing Futures for young BK's and youth contacts.
The initiative has two parts:
- Local centres and BK youth can do preliminary self-development or local programmes on the theme, starting 23 May (all resources are provided, including invitation text below).
- A grand finale online event on 5 June on which Sister Jayanti is speaking along with key figures in the environmental field of the UN.
We kindly invite all BK youth, young adults, and friends to engage in the suggested activities and participate in the finale event.

A team of young BKs from all regions invites you to a new initiative: Flourishing Futures Nourishing Biodiversity Now to honor the UN year of Biodiversity and the World Environment Day (WED) on 5 June. With this initiative we aim to raise and deepen awareness of the spiritual dimension of biodiversity and environmental issues in general.
The first part of the initiative invites all BK youth and friends to create a local or virtual event preliminary to 5 June. For this you find a toolkit attached to this e-mail which provides you with a lot of material. An example of the right order of how to use logos is attached. We are very much looking forward for collective enthusiasm to engage. Please register for staying tuned in here.

Sister Jayanti visit Tapovan in April: Class took place in this lovely are andI saw the very beautiful Meditation Hall for the first time. Yogic Agriculture has been taken up in a big way here, with regular trainings for BK/Contacts Farmers taking place. Experts from various areas of agriculture gather here to help as well. We have 75 acres of land in Tapovan and it’s really a very lovely place with many fruit trees and plantation of vegetables.

Happy Earth Day to All of You
First of all a letter from Golo in the editorial team:
Dear Friends,
Who would have thought that! Climate change was the top news and the BK green team just had been to the climate conference in Madrid. Newspapers around the globe had daily articles and shared information about global warming and environmental degradation. “Fridays for Future “was daily on the headlines.
And suddenly without much of a warning it’s all brushed aside by the Coronavirus and its pandemic spreading around the globe. The world watches with disbelief the death toll and furthermore the lockdowns and the effects to our day to day life. Freedom of movement suddenly is restricted and some of us are literally locked into their four walls. Many face economic ruin and don’t know how life will go on for them.
I am right now in Mount Abu, Gyan Sarovar and India has implemented a drastic lockdown which creates hard ship for many. Right now is not much of a chance to leave the country.
Our so busy and fast world has come to a standstill. A standstill which allows many of us to reconsider the way we lived, the way we exploited and destroyed our planet. We hear stories that nature is coming back, it seems that water and air clears up. But unfortunate climate change and environmental degradation is moving ahead on fast track. After all it’s the result of decades of wrongdoing and won’t stop that easy.
The world is changing in front of our eyes and the virus teaches us to reconnect with fundamental human values – love, compassion, humility and have faith in God.
Major conferences and meetings at least in the near future are getting canceled and the green team more and more shifts towards online activities. We are in process to offer more webinars, YouTube talks and most important online meditations for us and the planet. Please see your webpage for further info.
Our thoughts reach out to all of you with best wishes for your safety and wellbeing. Let us see this unfolding scenario as a chance to change or inner world and thus help humanity in this time of crisis.

We remember our dear Dadi in creating this newsletter. She was always a great supporter of the BK Environment Initiative. In one of our first presentation for the RC group, Dadi was not well and resting downstairs. She came up the stairs especially to hear about our ECO activities. She felt it was an important service and she wanted to support the group. During the first years of climate change conferences, she read our calendar every day to follow our programs. Hansa used to read the reports for her, and show pictures. Dadi often used to come to Solar site in Shantivan, to support the group and to enjoy peaceful natural atmosphere. And we all know Dadi loved the ocean! Dadi is now our green angel and will continue to support this service. Thank you Dadi.

UNEP Activity in Nairobi - permanent representatives to the United Nations Environment programme
Faith for Earth Workshop – was held at the UNEP in Nairobi, Kenya on December 2019.This was an international three day workshop, attended by Faith for Earth leaders on invitation by UNEP, to develop proposals in line with the sustainable development goals to address issues of climate change. The Brahma Kumaris were represented by Sisters Pratibha Patel and Dorcas Alusala.

Building Community Resilience: The Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute policy conference was held on 5-7 November 2019 in Johannesburg. Its purpose was to allow faith leaders from Southern Africa and beyond to deliberate, share practices, and jointly develop policy positions on a number of key issues. Sister Usha of Brahma Kumaris gave an impassioned speech at the closing of the conference.

I thought you would want to do something about a possible glitch to the future of our magnificent Global Retreat Centre in Oxfordshire.
There are proposals to effectively rip up the landscape 400m from the edge of GRC grounds, for open cast gravel extraction – an area 2km long and 1km wide! We have just over a week - till 4th of March - to raise as many objections as possible to stop this from happening. It is likely to have a huge effect on retreat centre guests: - the silence will go, wildlife will flee, the beautiful landscape will be ruined. Nuneham, a place where poets found inspiration, philosophers pondered the meaning of life and now, anyone who needs it, can find solace. I feel the world would want us to protect this priceless treasure.
Please take note of this call to action and save this peaceful place for everyone who needs it in the years to come.
To make a compelling case for halting these plans, please encourage as many peoplewho have been to GRC as you can, to do the same.It is the weight of feeling that is likely to have most impact on the decision. If someone is a non-English speaker, please tell them to feel free to respond in their own language.

Loving greetings from Abu. Many Double Foreigners gathered in Gyan Sarovar to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the campus. It was a lovely scene when all the foreigners expressed their appreciation of the Gyan Sarovar Niwasis for their 25 years of tireless service. Now the Integrated Retreat (CNC, NCCC & Boards) is going on in Shantivan.
I am sure you have all been keeping up with the news regarding the spread of COVID 19 (Coronavirus).
Experts say that the window to contain the disease may close rapidly and we may have to face a pandemic. This would mean the virus will spread around the globe. The infection is already in about 30 countries with Asian countries (along with China) being badly affected. In India there are three confirmed cases in Kerala.
The major role of Governments is to contain the virus. Anyone suspected of the virus will be placed in Quarantine for 14 days.
As many Double Foreigners are already travelling to India and will continue to travel during March and April, Dr Partap of Global Hospital and others have given some advice:
Travel:
Please avoid / restrict travel. Travel only if essential particularly to and from Asian countries.
Those who are elderly and those who have any pre-existing medical condition such as Diabetes, Asthma (Chronic Cough) and heart disease should avoid travel.
If you have felt unwell (fever, cough, breathing problems) within 14 days of travel, please get a check up before travelling.
Take the window seat while travelling, if possible
Follow the news and advice from the local authorities. Countries may impose travel restrictions or guidelines which have to be followed.
Contact:
Avoid close contact with people who have any flu-like symptoms whether at home or if you have stayed in a Hotel / Hostel / Guest House or are in a neighbourhood that has had a case of infection.
Personal Health and Hygiene:
Wash / disinfect hands more often and thoroughly. Wear a face mask, particularly in large gatherings. Avoid handshakes and close contact.
As a precaution boost your immune system as much as possible.
The virus has already caused substantial financial and economic damage to the global economy. Keep your centre / homes well stocked with all necessities.
When you are in Madhuban please immediately report to your teacher or go to the dispensary if you develop symptoms of flu - fever, cough and shortness of breath.
Baba’s children will always be safe under the canopy of protection while being sensible and taking precautions.

Recently we have created a new webpage, been to the climate change conference in Madrid and had a variety of green action going on. There is lots of information in this newsletter and soon another issue with focus on Africa and India will follow.

COP25 – The annual UN Climate Change Conference took place in Madrid, Spain in December 2019. It was the 11th Climate Conference in which Brahma Kumaris was actively participating. The conference was abruptly moved to Madrid, Spain due to the civil unrest in Chile. So everybody was forced to change tickets and plans. The BK Environment initiative participated in more than 26 programs. The need for a peaceful presence is the need of the time as the so called new “Eco Anxiety” is spreading wing at a fast speed. Sister Jayanti writes from Global Co-operation House: On the 24th Jan, we had a presentation of Eco-Cleaning Products that had been researched to an amazing degree, and it was a very interesting briefing on the whole subject of products that are free from cruelty to animals. It’s surprising to know of the things that go on in the world today.
UK Green Group: You may have heard of Veganuary which is an initiative that encourages people to try going vegan for the month of January. The websiteprovides lots of useful information and practical support. Going vegan is one of the best choices anyone can make to reduce the suffering of animals, help the planet and improve personal health.
On the last weekend in November, some of the UK eco team met at Worthing Lighthouse Retreat Centre to trial a Green Champions training programme to give support to BKs and/or BK centres in adopting more eco-friendly practices.

Personal Experiences from Australia:
"We have just have horrendous bushfires in two states in Australia going on - the likes of what has never been seen before - hotter, bigger, faster and harder to control. Our Sakash Team has asked for an increase in good wishes and peaceful vibrations for everything and everyone affected by the fires - especially the animals.
This morning three of us joined in an activity run by our City Council called Sand Angels - hoping to break the record of the number of people who did this. You lie in the sand on the beach and move your arms and legs to make impressions like wings and the dress of an angel. There were groups of different colored angels - we were the Green Angels! - which I thought was very fitting :)"
"We had two Good Vibrations special events (one in Sydney, the other in the Blue Mountains) in relation to the wild fires across Australia. We invited all Meditators to gather together to meditate/prayer: to calm the element of fire; heal the pain and losses (people, animals, nature, property); re-energize the exhausted fire-fighters, emergency workers and infrastructure workers; and to replenish nature and the environment. We played all the Green Angel Guided Meditations. " (See the invitation at the end of this mail)
