World Holocaust Memorial Day Reflections from the Interfaith Community in Aberdeen, Scotland

15 February 2021

Aberdeen (Scotland): World Holocaust Memorial day was celebrated by a group of people from the Interfaith community in Aberdeen. They came together virtually on Sunday 24th January and recorded their tributes to the many who had their lives taken away from them during the time of the 2nd World War and other conflicts.

Rev. Shuna Dicks, Minister at Cults Parish Church (Church of Scotland) and representing the Holocaust Memorial Day Committee, began the reflections. She focused on the Christian message that ‘Darkness will not overcome the light.’

There were many contributions from people of different faith backgrounds.

Nigel Dower presented the Quaker faith perspective and highlighted the work of Quaker groups after the war.

Desire spoke of the lived experience in Rwanda with civil war and genocide. He spoke of the power of forgiveness as a human rights campaigner.

Caroline Cormack from the Unitarian church spoke about the ‘bridge builders and hand-holders’ picking up the threads of humanity in an inhumane world.

Jackie Ware from the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter-Day Saints related a heart-warming story from 1948 of a husband and wife reunited after the war.

Madhav Regmi brought a Hindu perspective, focusing on the truths that ‘hurting others is a sin and helping others is meritorious’.

BK Astrid Benomir from the Brahma Kumaris conducted meditation. She said that the Soul and Supreme soul are light, light that dispels darkness. To experience that light, I need to become light.  She shared a meditation prepared by BK Sister Jayanti, European Director of Brahma Kumaris, on how to become light: I feel the light shining within, the inner being, soul. I shine in this awareness of who I am. My thoughts move to the Divine, the source of love. The power of God’s love heals, purifies, energizes, allows the soul to shine. The power of God’s love ignites hope in human’s heart. God’s love reaches out and touches, and Nature returns to a stage of harmony. God’s love reaches out and touches all types of life so that all life is safe and secure. God’s love transforms the whole world, a world of truth, a world of love, a world of harmony. I stay connected with the source, the light of love and we become light in the awareness of God’s love and light; the darkness dispels, the ignited light spreads in the world, and the darkness turns into light.

Alessandra Cecolin from the Jewish community reflected on living in peace.

Mirela Delibegovic from the Hungarian Muslim community reflected on the Serb-Bosnian occupation.

Phra Dushyantha Wereke (Thitadhammo) spoke about the difference between living in hate and living in peace.

Mervyn Barr, a humanist, reflected on love and kindness to other humans and related the story of a friend who refused to shoot refugees disembarking from boats.

Suki Pooni spoke about the 6th Sikh Guru who was taken prisoner and declined his release unless the 52 other prisoners were released with him.

Nisa Maris, a Muslim from Malaysia, talked about finding meaning in suffering and the factors of resilience.

Carl Wilkens spoke about his work in Rwanda and the power of forgiveness.

Audrey Mellard urged the need to educate our children to have the capacity of spreading light and not darkness into the world.

News from Jayantiben in London: 10 February

15 February 2021

The Beast from the East has come again, so this is No 2; we had a similar cold spell three years ago I believe, and once again there is a huge storm in several parts of the UK. In London, there has been a couple of cms of snow which is very little compared to many other countries, but it’s been very, very cold and this is due to last for another little while.

Baba’s service on the internet becomes easy, since no one has to go out for Classes etc.

Love Is The Antidote Of Fear, a Zoom Meeting Organized by Bradford Inner Space, Saturday 13 February, 5:00 pm GMT

14 February 2021

Fear seems to be a constant companion for most of us these days. It’s become so part and parcel of our lives, that without it, life would seem very strange indeed. Yet, when it comes, it creates the havoc of anxiety and doubt, sabotaging our joy, enthusiasm, and determination, resulting in poor attitudes and performance, not to mention a plethora of health issues.  Yes, of course, we have genuine fears, but on close examination most are imaginary.  This event will be an exploration of the healing power of presence and listening within.

About the speaker:  Masana De Souza is an experienced meditator. Also a counsellor.  coach, facilitator & mediator. Masana is passionate about supporting people to discover their own strengths and live an empowered life for the self and the greater good of others.

The Power to Discern - Soundcloud Recording of Br Charlie's Presentation at GCH on 4th February

9 February 2021

A Spiritual Toolkit for when Life gets Tough - A four-part series.
In today's world of unexpected changes and challenges with opposing forces and agendas threatening to take over our headspace, we may find that our old defenses and coping mechanisms are no longer adequate or helpful. To remain stable, positive, and effective in all situations we need to reclaim and exercise our inherent spiritual powers.

The Power to Discern is the ability to give the correct value to the thoughts, words, and actions of others and myself. With a clear, clean vision and a calm and positive mind I can reflect on my own motives and patterns and start to decipher the real basis of my decisions or actions, thus ensuring a more beneficial or best-case outcome.

Speaker: Charlie Hogg

Director of Brahma Kumaris Australia, Charlie has been practicing and teaching meditation for over 40 years and has visited more than 80 countries as a speaker at international conferences and public programs. From his own experience, he believes meditation is an extraordinary tool to maintain mental, emotional, and spiritual health in a world increasingly challenged by anxiety, stress, and depression. “We need a new wisdom for contemporary life.”

3 Ways to Support Others with Love - A Facebook Live Event Hosted by InnerSpace Manchester on 6th February (Replay available)

9 February 2021

We hear that love is all we need and in our hearts, we know it. But how does that work?  We say we love our family and friends but why is that love-ly feeling so temporary?  What makes the sweetness of our love turn sour?  How can we expand our hearts and experience being truly loving 24/7?

You can find out by revisiting the session. Simply click on the image above to be taken there.

News from Sister Jayanti in London: 7 February

9 February 2021

Over the last week or so, Sudeshben and myself have been meeting the NCTs of Europe online. This came about in a very natural way when during an NCT Sustenance Meeting, it was mentioned that normally we would meet in Madhuban around this time of the year, and perhaps each country NCT could meet separately. This has been happening now with several countries, and it’s been a very lovely experience of sharing, and understanding the situation amongst themselves and also in their country.

Cambridge – Reviving A Higher Consciousness

5 February 2021

Cambridge (UK): Sanjeevani retreats are organized online for anyone interested in spirituality.  They take place every two months with two-hour sessions each day for 7 days. It will be an immersive week with like-minded (virtual) company, which has been an enjoyable experience for previous online retreat participants.

It is also an opportunity for BKs to revise the foundation aspects of knowledge and explore new ways of learning and teaching. In the past the residential Sanjeevani retreats brought together new students with more experienced BKs which created a positive dynamic and all took benefit. This year and last year the retreats have all been online, and we aim to nurture this positive spirit on this new platform for meeting and learning.

The next two retreat dates are:

Monday 1st March – Sunday 7th March 2021 (10 am – 12 noon UK time)

Monday 10th May – Sunday 16th May 2021 (6 pm – 8 pm UK time)

Language: English with Hindi and Spanish translation available. Requests for translation into other languages can be considered.

The course will cover aspects such as:

  • How can I access my higher consciousness?
  • What do I need to know about the subtleties of ego?
  • What is the message of pain?
  • What is the ‘inner game’ in spirituality?
  • It is possible to heal the subconscious mind?
  • How can I spiritually sustain myself?

Included in the sessions will be:

  • Meditation experiments
  • Raja Yoga meditation philosophy classes
  • Panel discussions
