The Divine Intellect and the Mind that can Serve - 4 September, Peace Village

The awakening of the soul is also referred to as the opening of the third eye and the experience of divine insight. An awakened soul no longer sees with limited vision, but sees in the unlimited way that God sees. An awakened soul is far-sighted: he sees the present as a moment in the continuum from the past to the future. He is also "foresighted" meaning that he is often aware of something before it happens. Elevated vision is just one attainment of a divine intellect.
Within the soul there are two important abilities: the mind and the intellect. The mind is closely connected with the heart. It produces thoughts and feelings. Anything that affects the mind, such as suppression, anger and any kind of emotion also affects the heart. The intellect or buddhi allows the soul to reason and to discern. An ordinary intellect will rely on analysis of facts to discern and decide what to do, but a divine intellect will draw on spiritual understanding. The conscience, vivek, is an aspect of the intellect that helps the soul to discern based on values and principles. We reason with the intellect, but if we lack self-trust, we resort to argument and defensiveness. This is not a worthy use of the intellect.
The most elevated use of the mind and intellect are to connect the soul to God. Manmanabhav, an elevated instruction in the Gita, calls on us to stabilize and quiet the mind. In a different directive, mam ekam, the Divine says to us, "remember me," to link the yoga of our intellects with Him. In a soul awakened to its full capacity, both the mind and the intellect have left behind the limitations of habit and memory and surrendered to the influence of the Divine.
Such souls serve through the fragrance of their presence, the quality of their thoughts, the love in their hearts and the lightness in the atmosphere that surrounds them. They move gently in the world, naturally blessing others with their vision, their words and their actions.
When we understand what we are aspiring to, then we begin to realize the quality of spiritual effort we must make to move beyond the habits and limitations of a heavy, material consciousness.
FROM GROSS TO REFINED, FROM WANDERING TO STABLE
A gross mind is a mind in bondage. Seized with its own desires, it continuously fills with negativity and waste. It is self absorbed, lazy and busy with trivial things. A gross intellect is doubtful and suspicious. It cannot distinguish between what is temporary and artificial and what is eternal and true. It labors to make choices, analyzing facts, confused and stuck in the complexity of the moment, divorced from the past karma that produced it or the future account it might create.
As the soul makes spiritual effort to bring a full stop to negative and waste thoughts, to become detached from material things and to apply spiritual knowledge to the unfolding circumstances of life, the mind starts to become quiet and the capacity to understand emerges. The intellect becomes pure and subtle, sukshma buddhi.

Brahmin life is about being a child – a good, worthy, obedient and serviceable child-- experiencing belonging and sustenance. Shiv Baba as the Mother and Father is an ocean; He has love for everyone. His drishti towards everyone is to uplift children so they can reach to the maximum. Baba's drishti and Baba's teachings for everyone are the same. It's up to us as to how much attention and love we receive. Attention goes to something that is attractive.
The Dadis have the aim to be Bapsaman. There are two types of children who need help: those who actually need help and those who just want love. Dadi Janki and Dadi Gulzar have both said to me: You know how to keep yourself well. This inspires me. I underline it as a blessing – that this is what I have to do --- keep myself well, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Our aim as children at the Confluence Age is to show how as God's children, we remain well.
We as children of God have qualities that are inherent and we also have those that are inherited, meaning we claim them. Each one of us has qualities of God. He is the ocean and I am a drop. Your own recognition that you are God's child is like the new moon and the full moon. I feel God's presence all the time in the form of His qualities. Our light diminishes, but doesn't ever become extinguished. Now we have to become full again.
Baba says to look for heir souls. But if you do not experience yourselves to be heir souls, how will you recognize heir souls? Have the awareness of being an heir, a child and a master. Every day look at Baba with the intention of inheriting Godly virtues and divine virtues. Godly virtues I have as God's child, but in a small quantity, perhaps only a drop. Divine virtues, I inculcate. We say to Baba, You are the Ocean of Peace and I am the embodiment of peace. This is called relationship – from Baba to me, from me to Baba.
The aim for this retreat is to make Baba's remembrance natural and sweet. This is only possible when we understand the relationship clearly. I create Baba's presence in my life, in my family. When you are combined with Baba as a child with parents, whatever you say will have a different feeling. This is Baba's yagya. We are Godly children in a Godly family and so we have to interact with Godly virtues. Some of us live at the Confluence Age with the inheritance of God. We look at our fortune and know that it is coming from Baba. In the ordinary world, some people live their whole lives on their inheritance. They never have to work. We are God's children, so we have to be full. Baba keeps saying, "remember me". Remembrance is always based on relationship --- whether good or bad. We create this natural internal relationship that we can rely on. We should go to Baba first.
It's important to keep the relationship of parents and child. The main virtue of parents is love. If I am facing something that I feel is beyond my capacity, then Baba and I together will do it. Remember Baba in times of difficulty.
Baba is also a friend and companion, sathi. Baba is always available and there to talk to as a friend. When we feel a relationship, we may not fully understand it, but we have the experience. Remembrance is not an intellectual exercise. It comes from the heart. It is through remembrance that you will become satopradhan. You are heir souls – a master and a child.
Do everything in Baba's remembrance, not out of need. We are master creators, children of the creator. Baba has to touch someone's intellect, for example, to take care of the yagya. The touching comes from Baba to that soul, not from a soul to a soul. The yagya belongs to Baba. The whole world belongs to Baba. When something has to happen, Baba will touch the right soul for that to happen. Everyone gives to God and God gives the return of that. Everyone is important. Everyone is needed. Creating this relationship with Baba and the yagya is called remembrance.
When obstacles and challenges come, see how you manage. Maintain trust in God at that time. Remembrance invokes God's action. We are not begging. Remembrance is receiving attainments, an inheritance. When you don't remember Baba, your journey stops. Through remembrance, you reach your destination. Integrate God's remembrance in every thought you have. Create Baba's presence in different ways – by integrating thought with remembrance, your words and actions will also have that quality. If we serve without Baba, we always feel burdened and tired. I belong to Baba, and this is Baba's task. This is not your life. This life belongs to Baba. If you keep this in your awareness, you will fly.
When you take power and virtues from God into your life, you don't have to rely on your own capacity. Take and receive your full inheritance, so whatever is lacking in your thinking can be filled. Don't allow any doubt to enter your mind. Your thinking and your language should be infused with trust. Think and say, "It's easy."
When you stay in remembrance, people will know that you are Baba's. Remembrance is not only for your own self. It is for service and for the yagya. Your remembrance brings Baba and virtues and powers into your life, your service and your relationships. When you need a particular virtue in a moment, go to Baba and get it. Living in relationship with Baba creates a fortunate life.

With a still mind, the soul awakens to its true and elevated nature, sat, chit, anand swarup: I am the embodiment of truth, the embodiment of awareness and the embodiment of bliss. Bliss is beyond happiness and sorrow. Recently Baba spoke of the need for us to have unbroken or consistent bliss.
Every day we find more experiences of sat, chit and anand. The energy is more awakened now. Before, it was there, but it was dormant. We weren't experiencing it. When you say, "I am a soul," you are awakening this dormant energy. "I am a soul, a point of light." It's not that I didn't know this before, but when you say it, you feel the energy. Baba says it repeatedly in the murli. This is the spiritual awakening of the soul, chetana. In this, my awareness is awakening every day. It feels so good when you are sato, in undiluted pure consciousness, with no shadow, no influence. This state is called "bliss". In the rajo state our consciousness has other things mixed in it. Anand or bliss is what we experience when we go beyond happiness and sorrow on a physical or emotional level. The soul is sat, chit, anand swarup.
Throughout the day, it is actually for a very limited time that we are completely soul conscious – maybe one hour in total. It is different when we are in a retreat like this. Now, when you are creating a state of mind that is sato, what is happening? Whatever you are feeling, others will feel the same. I sit in that sato state so the original image of other souls emerges. I don't have to give anything to anyone. What is sustenance? You are sustaining others from your own state of being, swasthiti.
Mansa seva is that you are serving others from your state of mind, manosthiti. So one is the state of your mind and the other is your state of being – that is the state of your mind, your intellect and your sanskars. We say, om shanti, I am a peaceful being. But to really be om shanti, all three must be peaceful --- the mind, intellect and sanskars. The being is like the light of the sun or the moon. We look at the sun and moon and appreciate them.
When people say we look well, what they are really referring to is our inner state of being.
If you keep your mind free, you will know where and how to serve. That means a lot to other souls. For mansa seva we shouldn't keep thinking. When we are thinking, speaking and doing, our minds are not silent. Some people feel useless if they are not doing something. You are first a being, then you think and act. For some there is a deep tiredness within. This can happen when we are suppressing something. Some live in a state of anxiety or anger. This can block your energy. If you notice this is happening, get it out. Don't just try to discipline yourself or control yourself. When we sit with Baba, it's important to be alert to the progress we need to make to remove these obstacles and to create an elevated state. This is necessary to serve through the mind.
You don't have to worry about having to serve someone. If you feel some soul needs extra help, remember Baba and that soul will get the help they need. People call Baba's home when something happens. It's not that they're calling us for us to do something. It's that they know that we will remember Baba. Mansa seva is about being in elevated vibrations. It's not about giving something to someone. As we remember Baba, our inner state becomes like that. You have to be that, then the words will be words of power and blessings. People want blessings – words of blessings, drishti of blessings. If you tell someone they don't look well, that is not a blessing. Blessings remove eclipses and obstacles and provide souls with what they need. So mansa seva is very easy. The quality of the mind infuses the words, drishti and actions.
As we spend time in silence, we find we are pulled to be in silence more. As you are in silence, you know where to direct your energy. If you wake up during the night, sit in remembrance. Keep a lamp and a book of avyakt murlis next to your bed. At the end, it is only remembrance that will be useful. It's like a flower. It doesn't try to give its fragrance or ask you to come and smell it. It is fragrant, and its fragrance pulls you.
Never allow your face to change when a situation happens. Your face should never wilt. When Baba looks at you, let Him always see you in happiness. Your face should glorify God. So don't allow your heart to shrink or your face to sulk. The fragrance of your inner love and patience will create a natural pull for others. See through your third eye with the hope that this soul can blossom again. Mansa seva is good wishes. Dadi Janki says, "If we close the door of good wishes for a soul, there will never be change." We have to keep sharing good wishes.
In our lives we have to integrate our thoughts, words, drishti and actions. There is a difference between being rich and being royal. Rich people think of material things. Royal people are contented and always look full and complete. Baba is preparing us so we can play our part in a beautiful way. A lot of people go for skills and expertise, but what is needed at this time are virtues. If you are honest, peaceful and friendly, with no comparison with others and no jealousy, this is what the world needs. Jealousy and comparing with others is like a woodworm. They eat us up internally. I'm giving these examples because these are the things that affect the quality of your thoughts and efforts. Think about sat, chit anand swarup. In silence experience these three qualities.
Preparing the Mind for Silence Retreat at Peace Village - 3rd September

We want to become an image of a still mind. This morning in the subtle regions, Baba shared long drishti. He said that if you can create a still mind for one second, it can become a natural state of mind for you.
We have to do two things: empty and fill. Some try to only fill the mind. Then they can feel newness emerging, but some of the old is still there. We need to get rid of things that are old and no longer useful to us. Today, attempt to see two things: (1) what old is within me that needs to be removed, and (2) what new is emerging? Keep getting rid of the old, and you will see what new is emerging.
Think of your original and eternal form. Your original form is divinity. Your eternal form is purity. There should be nothing ordinary. Your thoughts, drishti, power to discern and attitude should all be divine. Practice removing that which is ordinary and making everything divine. As wrong thoughts come, remove them. Don't merge them into the self, but remove them. Apply knowledge and see how beautiful your experience will be.
Bhavna is there, but for you to make progress, it must be practical. There are two similar Hindi terms, shanti and shant. Shanti means peace and shant means quiet. The mind is sometimes compared to a horse, to the fickleness of air or to a monkey. Shant chit is a deep consciousness within that produces a still mind. It is like looking at a steady flame on a candle that is undisturbed by the wind. Uncertainties, insecurities and lack of trust generate negative and wasteful thoughts. The more trust you have, the less you have to think. You cannot plan for drama. You just need to act. Don't have a stubborn mind: "I want to do…" Look deep within the self, to see if you have acquired a quiet mind. A quiet mind creates vibrations that help others.
Souls will be touched by the qualities you have, not just by what you say. Today souls don't have power. You have to give power. This comes from the stage of stability. Our giving and serving must come from the quality of a still mind. A still mind produces high quality thoughts. We talk about mansa seva, but mansa seva can only happen with a high quality of thoughts. I'm not even talking so much about virtues or values here. When thoughts emerge from a state of shant chit, they are of a high quality and can serve. In a state of still mind, we will be touched by Baba and get signals that tell us what the souls in front of us need. With shant chit our touching and catching power is higher. Now we have a higher purpose: to help souls to reach their destination. This comes from being touched and touching others.
Another Hindi term ix ekagrachit. It is about a deep concentration, about being with One. Baba wants us to be instruments. This requires that we be sensitive --- in a good sense – and also that we be sensible.
Chit is not exactly attitude, though that is how it is often translated. It is deeper than that. It refers to something that is in our center, more like the way we speak of experiencing something in our hearts.
There are three different states that you can work with today: soul conscious, bodiless and incorporeal. They are distinct. When we speak about soul consciousness, we are talking about a state we hold when we are walking, talking and interacting with others. In this state we are awake and alert.
In the bodiless state we separate ourselves from our bodies. It is when we sit and detach from the body. Certain situations require us to detach from our bodies. When we do this, our angelic form emerges.
Being incorporeal is going beyond the body to the sweet home, to silence, to the incorporeal stage. Use these three practices today, and you will immediately notice sanskars and feelings emerging that have to be removed.
Even if others say the same things that used to cause you to react in a certain way, you can accept that they will say the same things and that you can choose to react in a different way. This starts with changing your feelings about something before you change your actions. If you want to pass with honor, start changing your feelings. For example "I am not loved," or "this one doesn't listen to me". Examine how you felt, and have the determined thought that you are not going to feel that way again. Maya will try to make you hers all the time. This is Maya's job -- to prevent you from reaching perfection.
Question on the difference between ravan and maya. Answer: Ravan is the vices and maya is illusions, inaccurate reasoning based on sanskars, which we use to make ourselves comfortable.
To stay close to Baba and to have love for the yagya, it is important not to follow your own directions --- not to trust yourself more than you trust Baba. Practice these three states, soul consciousness, bodiless and incorporeal. The incorporeal is the best. A lot will emerge. Certain things keep coming back in the mind, like feelings of anger or feeling that others don't understand. These deep discontentments will keep you stuck. You must remove them.
Someone asked, can you be both content and ambitious? Yes, contentment has to do with looking at the past. Ambition is about looking at the future. Realize that whatever happened, had to happen. It was accurate. It used to be that when we took the train from Delhi to Abu Road, it took 24 hours. It was a mail train that stopped at every town. Later we took a passenger train and it took only 18 hours. Now there is a high-speed train that makes the trip in 13 hours. Some have a mind that stops everywhere. Keep your speed and accuracy high so your mind doesn't get distracted repeatedly. Don't just be comfortable; have more renunciation.
