Guangzhou, China: International Yoga Day News

16 July 2017

A very special event was  co-organised by Brahma Kumaris and Consulate General of India in Guangzhou, China. This event was held in a 5-star hotel in the city centre and about 500 souls took benefit. We also invited some hatha yoga teachers from various yoga schools in the province. It was a good chance for letting the audience know about the mental and spiritual aspects of yoga along with physical yoga.

As Brahma Kumaris were the co-organisers with Consulate General of India, we had the opportunity to design and plan the whole activity, so we could give a spiritual message to the audience in an appropriate way.

It was half a day activity in which BKs had two slots of 45 minutes each to present Rajyoga. BK Sister Sapna presented Rajyoga Meditation using audio, video & guided meditations along with a short speech about the introduction of the ancient way of Rajyoga and its benefits.

The program was inaugurated by Consulate officers Mr Tarun Kumar and Mrs Aarti Vasudev from the Indian Consulate in Guangzhou. The program concluded with meditation for world peace conducted by Sister Sapna and BK students.

Many people registered for Rajyoga classes as a follow up of this event, which shows that souls are really keen to know more about the spiritual dimension of yoga.

Service news & photos of International Day of Yoga Celebrations at The Westin Kolkata Hotel

29 June 2017

The program was inaugurated by candle lighting by few of the following distinguished guests:

1. S. K. Gajmer, IPS, IGP, W.B; 2. Dr. H. P. Kanoria, Chairman, SREI Foundation; 3. The Ven Pahulaa Thero, Bhikhu Incharge, Mahabodhi Society of India, Kolkata;  4. Vinod Kumar Yadav, IFS, Addl Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; 5. Hon’ble Justice Subrata Talukdar, Judge, Kolkata High Court; 6. Sister Kanan, Senior Incharge, Brahma Kumaris, Kolkata; and other distinguished guests like H.P.Budiaji, MD of PATTON, Santosh Ku Rungtaji, Chairman of the Rungta group, Dr and Mrs Chandan Basu of Greenfield, and Mrs Suchhandra Bhutoria, Senior Vice President of FICCI FLO.

An enlightening session of spiritual insights, yoga, meditation and experience sharing was organized by SREI Foundation in association with Brahma Kumaris on 21st June 2017 at The Westin Kolkata Hotel.  the event was attended by over 700 souls.

The program started with a presentation on International Yoga Day. It described how we would have an opportunity to get an experience of the journey into inner life in order to rediscover the spirit within and to communicate with the Supreme Soul. The program continued with the introduction of the soul and Supreme Soul, together with a guided meditation by Sister Chandra. After that, through a video presentation, the message of blessing by Rajyogini Dadi Janki, Chief of Brahma Kumaris regarding the International Day of Yoga was displayed.

The distinguished guests shared their illuminating experience.

S.K Gazmerji, IPS, IGP, West Bengal said, “My whole understanding and perspective was changed and started to become superior when I was taught by Brahma Kumaris about my real Self (Soul).

The Chairman of SREI Foundation, Dr. H. P. Kanoria said, “We can establish our sweet relationship with Supreme Father through Rajyoga and thereby we get the powers of Supreme Father Shiv Baba and negative tendencies are faded away. God clears our intellect, which then controls the mind”

Brother Ven-Pahula Thero, a Srilankan, delivered his speech in Hindi. He said that we all need peace of mind. He said that the mind is very fast. You kill a mosquito without thinking. Why? Because you gave that power to mind. The mind follows us like a shadow. Our mind can take us to far away places, like you think America & the picture of Obama and Trump comes to you. You think of India and then the picture of India losing the cricket match comes. You can take your mind to the moon or even to the sun. So, how will you get peace? If you keep your mind in control. We all fear death. Why? Because then we have to move away from here.

Bro. Vinodji said “The word Om Shanti is the essence of everything. Science has done so much development that it can take us to the moon or other planets. Now NASA has said that the word “Om” is coming out from the rays of Sun. But our sages have told it much earlier. So, true peace comes through Raj Yoga only. It needs repeated practice of Raj Yoga to control ones thought process and then only you can feel peace. So, if you go to any centre of BK, you feel peace there as the Raj Yoga creates vibrations of peace."

Justice Subrata Talukdar of Kolkata High Court said, “Peace only comes when we practice Raj Yoga as mentioned by various speakers. What happens when I am riding a cycle and someone sitting on the back of the cycle is trying to dis-balance me. I, while riding the cycle, immediately understand and adjust accordingly. Same is needed for being peaceful. He also said that what distinguishes humans from animals are thoughts and so our thoughts should be managed properly.”

Sister Kanan thanked Brother Kanoriaji and Sister Champa for providing the facilities to arrange this program. She said that Supreme Father is giving us His powers so that all our brothers and sisters, even while remaining in the family, are leading a peaceful life. However busy we stay in our work place, we just keep a relationship with the Supreme Father and keep his remembrance throughout. We have so many brothers and sisters who earlier tried to get rid of their anger and intoxicating habits but failed, and after practicing Raj Yoga they were so easily able to get rid of those habits. So many come to me and ask for a blessing for their children who are restless. How do they become peaceful? --  by coming here and by receiving the powers of Supreme Father.

There was a session of powerful mass meditation which was enjoyed by all.

Physical Yoga was also presented for 20 minutes by Shibu Bhai  the end of the programme.

On Godly Service,

BK Kanan

Invest in the Self and Share with the World! - IYD news from St.Petersburg, Russia

28 June 2017

Since the last three years, the International Yoga Day (celebrated on 21 June) has been becoming increasingly popular in St. Petersburg, Russia. The importance of 21 June was hardly known to anyone here in 2015. A large-scale yoga festival took place in this historical city in 2016. And this year St. Petersburg is celebrating the Yoga Week (!) that will culminate with a magnificent parade of various schools of yoga at the very heart of the city, the Peter and Paul Fortress ground. The public event “Gently Embracing the Earth” that took place at Lighthouse, the Brahma Kumaris Centre in St. Petersburg on 22 June, became a significant contribution to spreading the message of ancient wisdom of raja yoga for achieving the stage of physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

The event started with an inspiring master-class by Vivek Tiwari, an experienced hatha yoga teacher from India, now teaching yoga at the Consulate General of India in St. Petersburg. The audience followed him in a series of simple, yet effective, exercises, extremely helpful for modern busy people.

Mr. Arun Kumar Sharma, Consul General of India, and his spouse became special guests of the event. Mr. Arun Kumar Sharma addressed the audience, saying, “I am happy that you are associated with the Brahma Kumaris here and enjoying the benefits of yoga and meditation. It has been now scientifically established that regular practice of yoga helps us in managing our life better, in finding the balance of our body, mind and soul. Yoga is applicable not only in India but everywhere in the world because we as human beings face similar issues, irrespective of where we live. All of us have to deal with stresses and tension. My personal experience says that yoga helps us to manage those issues in a better way. Practicing yoga ultimately helps us to attain union with the Supreme, God. So I would say that yoga and meditation have universal applicability and universal appeal.”

Didi Santosh, director of the Brahma Kumaris, St. Petersburg, said, “Investment in the self is the need of the time. Since the self is not physical but spiritual, we have to fill ourselves spiritually on a daily basis. Along with physical food, we require food for the soul. This is what the International Yoga Day is all about. It gives us the message that when you are able to make a pause between your actions and go into silence, you nurture the true spiritual, eternal self.”

The event was decorated with a beautiful folk dance and videoclips that inspired the audience to share their good wishes and pure feelings with Mother Earth. The guided meditation conducted by Didi Santosh and adorned with the silent presence of six Brahma Kumari sisters, practitioners of raja yoga, enabled everyone to plunge into the ocean of calm and purity. And the delicious vegetarian dinner made us feel we were one big and loving family!

It is an art of knowing the inner self in its true perspective and remaining in loving remembrance of the Supreme Being in all human relations in order to conquer ego, inner vices, weaknesses, addictions and attachments to worldly entities.

She said that the practice of Raj-yoga results in inner empowerment, which is essential for experiencing and restoring holistic health, harmony and happiness in self and human society. She said that Raj-yoga, being a form of intellectual & mental communion with God, could be practised while performing  one’s daily duties and that it would empower the practitioner to cultivate truthfulness, righteousness, cleanliness and simplicity as well as avoid wasteful, vicious and negative thoughts, word and deeds.

Lok Sabha MP Sakshi Maharaj, as the Special Guest on the occasion, echoed the wisdom of Dadi Janki by saying that self realization and God realization were the quintessence of all sacred scriptures and religious texts. Spiritual yoga or Raj-yoga is the way to attain these higher stages of life, he said. He presented his book ‘Gita-Ek Yoga Shastra’ to Dadiji and to other inter-faith leaders on the stage.

Rajyogini Asha Didi, Main Program Coordinator of the event, said that yoga is a powerful tool which not only connects the mind, body and spirit in harmony, but also brings significant positive changes in one's lifestyles. By practising yoga on a daily basis, one can become a peaceful and loving soul and can carry out worldly duties with balance and with a sense of emotional detachment from worldly powers and possessions.

Prominent among others who also gave their greetings on the occasion and advocated for practice and promotion of yoga as a healthy, simple, positive and virtuous way of life, were Father Filix Jones, Catholic Archdiocese of Delhi; Dildar Hussain Beigh, President of All Hussain Memorial Society, Dr A K Merchant, National Trustee of the Bahai community and Mr E I Malekar, Head Priest, Judah Hyam Synagogue in India.

Ludhiana, June 18: Ahead of the International Yoga Day, a camp was organised at the Rose Garden by the Ludhiana branch of the Brahma Kumaris Spiritual University. A consultant physician, Dr BK Sachin, who was the resource person on the occasion, spoke on "Rajyoga to Strengthen Mind and Intellect." The camp was inaugurated by Ludhiana Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria.

The university offers many graduate, postgraduate, and diploma courses in value education. The institution is unique in itself as it helps bring personal, familial and social harmony through rajyoga teachings. Dr Sachin has been associated with the organisation for the past 13 years.

The programme, which was of two hours duration, began at 5:30 am with participants doing exercises and yoga asanas. More than 600 people attended the camp.

Dr Sachin apprised participants about the meaning and importance of yoga. He said, “The meaning of yoga is re-union and discipline. It’s the union of body with mind, mind with intellect, intellect with soul and soul with the supreme soul.” He said Patanjali yoga comprised eight components — yamas, niyamas, aasanas, pranayamas, pratyar (external), dharna, dhyan, samadhi (internal). “The most popular, aasana and pranayam, are only two parts of yoga. Rajyoga is the complete and ultimate stage of yoga. It answers the sutle purpose of yoga,” he added.

He said, “For physical ailments, aasanas and pranayam are good, but rajyoga meditation gives solutions for all intended difficulties. It makes us realise our real self, which is calm, pure, peaceful, happy and beautiful, similar to the Supreme Soul.”

International Day of Yoga 2017

16 May 2017

Dear Family,

Greetings of peace. We are just about a month away from celebrating the 3rd International Day of Yoga. As in the past two years, we are sure that you are working closely with the Indian High Commissions, Embassies, and Consulates in your country.

At the UN headquarters in New York we have participated in the planning meetings hosted by the Ambassador of India to the UN, and their focus for this year is on health.

We, the Brahma Kumaris at the United Nations, and the International Day of Yoga Committee at the UN are hosting a program on June 22 titled Yoga: The Ultimate Connection. The highlight of this event is a conversation between Sister Shivani and a high level person in New York City, who has a daily practice of meditation.

Please find below a brief write-up on the topic, which you may find useful in organizing your local programs.

We would appreciate if you could post on the BKUN facebook page events you are planning for the International Day of Yoga as a build up to June 21, as well as posting the actual events on the day they happen.

If there is anything we can do to help support your local event, please do let us know.

In Baba’s yaad and seva

People all over the world have discovered that the ancient practice of yoga is one of today’s most important tools to living a life with meaning.

• Yoga connects a person to the source of life and opens the heart and clears the mind.

• Yoga connects a person to their authentic self, awakening the conscience and harmonizing one’s spiritual trajectory of awareness, attitude, and action.

• Yoga provides one with the ability to tap into a space of greater creativity to receive inspiration and a sense of purpose.

• Yoga connects the hearts of people from all walks of life to each other through its unifying force and through the web of life.

There are many ways to experience how yoga joins people, communities, organizations, and institutions. When we come together, through these practices, we feel belonging, act collectively and transform our lives, our societies and our planet.

This alchemy, whether within the self or among people, is the essence of our sacred humanity and is the cause for celebration.
