Brahma Kumaris Address United Nations Ocean Conference

Lisbon (Portugal): ‘Technologies of Consciousness in Scaling Up Ocean Actions’, a Virtual side event was organised at 2022 UN Ocean Conference in  Lisbon.

A panel in the conference offered an in-depth discussion on the role of human consciousness in degradation and rebuilding of the ocean life and in achieving sustainable development goals. The participants examined which shift in mindset is needed so that the well-being of humans and ocean can become the new imperative of our global action.

BK Dr. Tamasin Ramsay, Senior Policy Advisor, Animal Justice Party (Australia) was the Moderator and Speakers were :

1. Professor Emeritus James Mair, Centre for Marine Biodiversity and Biotechnology, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh (UK)

2. John Ndiritu, Professor of Water Engineering University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa)

3. Rabbi Ed Rosenthal, CEO – Repair the Sea (the USA)

4. BK Valériane Bernard, UN Representative for Brahma Kumaris in Geneva (Switzerland).

Meditation was conducted by BK Aneta Loj, R&D Coordinator at Brahma Kumaris, India One Solar Thermal Power Plant (India / Poland).

UN Climate Change Conference (COP 27) November 6 – 18, 2022

At this year’s very timely climate change conference titled "UN Framework for the Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)", the Brahma Kumaris are participating by attending and co-organizing events with other NGO friends. The conference is being held in Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Center, Egypt, from November 6 -18, 2022.

Living Values Education (LVE) is being presented by the BK Environmental Initiative at the UN's COP27 conference in Egypt on 9th November at noon Eastern time (10:30 GMT +2)

Cairo (Egypt): On Wednesday, November 9th at 10:30 am GMT+2, Living Values Education (LVE) is being presented by BK Environmental Initiative representatives at the side event at COP27. The BKs were the seed of LVE many years ago and many BKs are still involved in its programs.

 

LVE has a new little book, "Living Values Education Activities for Caring for the Earth", which is a climate change resource for children and young adults. Based on the three new activities books, it features three activities around "Simplicity" and "Caring for the Earth and Her Oceans". It's very affordable, being priced at only $8/book on Amazon.com. It is hoped that many will use it to educate themselves and the young people in their lives. The time is now to help our precious Earth.

Green Newsletter - Preparing for COP27, Talanoa Dialogues in November

Dear green newsletter friends,

 

Once more, the world and the Brahma Kumaris team are getting ready for the Climate Change Conference COP27. This time it is the turn of Africa to host the COP27; it will take place in Egypt in Sharm El-Sheik from the 6th to the 18th of November. The program will gather governments, organisations, and civil society to foster collaboration in delivering greenhouse gas emission reductions and ensuring a just transition to a net-zero economy. The aim is to secure a sustainable future, including alleviating poverty.

 

For the 4th time, the interfaith movement will unite different faiths and people interested in a Talanoa Dialogue. The topic of Climate Justice is, as always, at the center of Faith-Based Organisations. The event will take place on the first day of the COP. We aim to create a hybrid event in which you could participate if interested. The organising team seeks to co-create a Call we will present the new executive secretary of the UNFCCC based on the different dialogues that will take place during the event.

 

The Talanoa Dialogue format was first used in COP21 in Paris, and it consists of 3 main questions:

    • Where are we at the moment?

• Where do we want to go?

• How do we get there?

 

This year, the Brahma Kumaris delegation comes from Egypt, the UK, U.A.E, Kuwait, India, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Bahrain, and France. We are in the process of finalising our message and are planning to host several panels and events during the conference.
